#DiGiWriMo – November 10

To my international friends: It is not as bad as the media makes it seem (they fan the flames to sell more newspapers). The ship of state is still strong and is built to endure the occasional storm. We are witnessing a peaceful transition of power.

To my American friends: It is not as bad as the media makes it seem (they fan the flames to sell more newspapers). The ship of state is still strong and is built to endure the occasional storm. We are witnessing a peaceful transition of power.

To my friends who want to participate in peaceful protest: you have first amendment rights. I strongly support the first amendment. As a librarian I live the first amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

The first amendment has taken a severe beating over the past 8 years, over the past 16 years.  But it is still the FIRST amendment. The Constitution has not changed. Voting is also a part of the exercise of the first amendment. And respecting the outcome of elections is respecting your neighbor’s expression of first amendment rights, as you would expect your rights to be respected. It is also called the golden rule.

I so love this song!  Translation here.
